The Lasher Firm is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Real Estate Paralegal to replace a retiring paralegal. This position supports attorneys practicing in a variety of disciplines and requires a proactive professional who thrives in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a law firm.
Lasher is a mid-sized Pacific Northwest law firm based in downtown Seattle. The firm, which is known for having a collegial and supportive atmosphere, has existed for over 50 years due to its commitment to excellence and pragmatic solutions. The firm’s main areas of practice are corporate & business law, family law, creditors rights and bankruptcy, estate and gift tax returns, estate planning, trusts & probate, employment, real estate, tax law, trademark registrations, and business/trust/estate litigation.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and obtain property information and deeds for real property located in the United States utilizing office software, title companies, and alternative resources;
- Prepare deeds and related documents for recording as required by the corresponding jurisdiction;
- Understanding of requirements for exemptions from excise and/or transfer taxes, and the forms required for recording;
- Understanding tax calculations and title endorsements;
- Awareness of Current Use Designations and the procedures to continue designations;
- Knowledge of recording electronically and manually. Proficiency with Simplifile a plus;
- Familiarity with Washington’s requirements for Controlling Interest Real Property Tax Affidavit including those where no deed is recorded.
Knowledge of rules for recording judgments, lis pendens, and other documents as may be requested by the litigation group;
Drafting of simple promissory notes and deeds of trust;
Understanding of process and documentation required to reconvey deeds of trust and to satisfy mortgages;
Be familiar with and proficient with FinCen reporting requirements relative to real estate transactions;
Familiarity with Commercial Brokers Association and Northwest Multiple Listing Association Service forms.
The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and must be detail oriented with the ability to prioritize, stay on task, and be timely. This is a hybrid position with paralegals working in the office 4 days per week and working from home 1-day per week. Annual base salary for this position ranges from $80,000 - $90,000 depending upon years of experience and abilities.
